As the Success Sketchers draw down the home strech, and head toward the final weeks of school, everyone is focused on learning new skills and selecting work for the Student Show. Learning cross-hatching and stipple drawing techniques was challenging fun for students and teachers.

Amazing abstract composition, man!!!! The control of your line work REALLY shows in your wonderful abstract drawing as well as your cross-hatching sketches. Look forward to seeing your choices of work for the Student Show.

Darrian

When you're focused you REALLY excel in drawing, Darrian!!! You used lines, shapes, and patterns (like the Kandinsky artwork) to create an exquisite abstract composition! Your invented drawing of the guy behind the fence is very well drawn--good thing it's copyrighted. :-) What will your imagination come up with for the Student Show?

Marcial

Alright, Marcial!!!! Your skills are improving in leaps and bounds! GREAT start with the cross-hatching drawing showing the form of the fox! Great eye for the contour edges and proportions of its body. Hope you can finish it for the Student Show. Really nice use of angled lines in your cubist (with reference to the artist Georges Braque) abstract drawing.

Dezmen

Dezmen, I think you've found your style of drawing--abstract!! Using the art abstract artist Kandinsky as a reference you put together a wonderful composition (how elements are arranged on the page). Nice use of lines, shapes, and patterns.

Axel

Welcome to Success Sketchers, Axel!!! You've got a great start in drawing with lines and shapes. Overall, the proportions (sizes of shapes compared to other shapes) are well drawn, especially the frog and toucan. Holding the pencil on its side was a bit difficult at first, but your accuracy of proportions and line work improved with each new drawing. Keep practicing drawing light guidelines for the shapes of things; then finishing with darker outlines.

Billy

As you settled into the cross-hatch drawing of the man you laid down some excellent line work!! The contour edges of his profile and proportions of his facial features are well drawn. Nice job on the shading that defines his nose and mouth. I really like how you used lines, patterns, and tones to create a very expressive abstract drawing. Wonder which of your drawings you'll choose for the Student Show?

Hey, Joeslyn!! You've done an excellent job of combining lines, shapes, and patterns in your abstract drawing! The gray tone in the background is a nice way to tie together the composition. Hope you can do some more wonderful work for the Student Show.

Very expressive use of lines and patterns to pull together a nice abstract drawing!!! Your inner artist is showing through on this one, Jesus. Maybe you'll be able to finish the Aztec drawing you started awhile back for the Student Show.

Raul

This is one of the most focused drawings you've done in a while, Raul!!! GREAT control of angled lines while creating cross-hatched tones. For the Student Show you should try using the cross-hatch technique for another drawing.

Just really awesome abstract composition, Sarah!!! Nice rhythm and harmony happening with angled and curved lines. More abstract for the Student (Teacher) Show?

Rueben

The artwork of Wassily Kandinsky inspired you, man!! Great combo of intertwined lines, shapes and colors! Lots of movement going on in your abstract piece. Hope you have time to put together a composition for the Student (Teacher) Show, Ruben.

Nate

You've just cranked out the drawings, no matter what the lesson is that I throw at you!!! Drawing after drawing your skills just keep on moving up to the next level. EXCELLENT stipple work forming the eye and cross-hatching for the man's face, Nate! Your abstract composition is a delightful mix of lines, shapes, and patterns. Wonder what it will be for the student show? :-)
